San Diego Holiday Bowl 2005

Watch out California here we come...

Well we made it there and back with “almost” no problems and a lot of laughter!!!

Micheal had lots of fun in that famous California traffic and made it safely over the Coronado Bridge and back.  Tom told him he should see the bridge in the light because it is very pretty, but Micheal was not having it.

As we embarked on the trip to Tijuana we waited about 30 minutes for the blue line trolley (which we finally realized didn’t come down that far and we had to first take the green line) we met a lot of DUCK Fans.  Since this was my first trip into Tijuana I didn’t quite know what to expect.  Now I do!!  The cab ride was a little scary, people a little pushy and the boarder was not very observant (as Tom walked across with everyone “purchases” in one suitcase and was not questioned).

Michael and Tom got the float to staging without problems.  As the floats in front of us started to move we got all the kids on and Micheal turned the key … Nothing.  After a few frantic minutes, Michael flipped the bridge up and hit the started.  Micheal turned the key again and the float jerked to life.  We made it through the parade and almost to the Port when it died again in traffic.  Micheal again waved his magic wrench at the started and we made it to the Port and into the box.

As Micheal headed home, Tom took the rest of us to Ocean City for lunch and to walk on the beach.  Carol, Judy and Bobbi met an interesting lady who asked if we worked at KFC and Tom and I found a guy who had invented air conditioned cut off jeans (Not what we needed after lunch).

After that Carol, Judy, Bobbi and I decided to watch the game in our room.  It soon became clear that my life might be in danger as I was the only Oklahoma fan in the room.  As the Sooners held off the Ducks to win the bowl, I was informed that the only reason the Sooners won was because they had the “Home Team Advantage”.  This caused a lot of laughter, as did when we found out the USC Chargers were playing in the Rose Bowl against the Texas Longhorns.

At Fashion Mall Carol and Judy found the after Christmas Sale at Hallmark (twice).  Luckily we all had our BIG suitcases with extra room!!  After a long day of shopping we had to stick our feet into the hot tub.  However, our hot tub time was cut short as there was a “monkey” in the hot tub.

So with lots of shopping done Carol, Bobbi, Judy and I headed for home.  At t he airport we were informed our flight from San Francisco to Seattle had been canceled and we had been transferred to United leaving at 8pm.  We choose to fly stand by on the earlier flight.  As we went through security we were informed that we were marked as “Special”.  That means we got pulled aside and our carry-on bags had to be searched and we had to be wanded.

After all the chaos with the flight we all made it on the stand by flight.  Richard picked us up at SEATAC and we all made it home safe and sound with all our new goodies.
