WILCOX CROWNED AS 2010 FESTIVAL QUEEN!
Kaija Wilcox, a Senior from Marysville-Pilchuck HS, was crowned Queen of the 2010-2011 Marysville Strawberry Festival Royalty Court. The Crowning was performed by the 2009-2010 Strawberry Festival Queen Shelby Hintze. Ms. Wilcox was selected based upon her scores for public appearances and her performance in the April Friesner Memorial Royalty Pageant. Queen Wilcox was awarded a $5000 scholarship award to go with her crown. Joining her on the Royalty Court this year is First Princess Haley Otto, a Junior from Marysville-Pilchuck HS and Second Princess Ella Stefoglo, a Senior at Lakewood HS. Both Princesses will receive $3500 scholarship awards for their achievements. Royalty Candidate Mackenzie Harrell, a Junior from Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy, won the Bob Klepper Memorial Congeniality Scholarship Award which has a value of $500 and is voted upon by the Royalty Candidates.
These ladies will travel throughout the Pacific Northwest with the Marysville Strawberry Festival traveling float as goodwill ambassadors for the Greater Marysville area. Their first parade will be a four parade day on Saturday, April 10th - the Daffodil Festival - which starts in Tacoma at 10:15am - then moves on to Puyallup at 12:45pm - next to Sumner at 2:30pm - then lastly at Orting at 5:00pm. Their second parade day will be the Washington State Apple Blossom Festival in Wenatchee on Saturday, May 1st.
Junior Royalty Court winners were Cassie Coate from Cedarcrest Middle School, Piper Holiday from Totem Middle School and Cassy Mead from Cedarcrest Middle School. All three are 6th graders and were selected from essays that they wrote to the Festival. They are awarded $150 scholarships awards. These young ladies will have the ability to fill in as goodwill ambassadors whenever the need arises when our Senior Royalty Court is not available.
The 2009-2010 Royalty Court was Queen Shelby Hintze, Princess Azzlinn Morales and Princess Rebecca Thomas.
